Native Americans
Christopher Columbus met many different tribes during his journey, although he labeled them all as "Indians". The people he interacted with the most was the Tainos. They were a very peaceful people, and were surprised by the Spanish men's willingness to fight. Columbus and his men discovered that they could make the natives scared of them, and they would do what they wished. Columbus decided to bring back some of these people, along with the gold and spices that he had found there. The Tainos were treated like slaves, and sometimes were beaten or tortured if they didn't listen! Columbus did not treat the native people well, and created a bad reputation for Europe in the New World!
